Overview
The European Spirit is THE sightseeing tour of 2009. Start in
Paris, finish in Rome and in between.....let your imagination run wild! Cruise the canals in Amsterdam,
wander the cobbled streets of Prague and watch the sun set from a cliffside bar in Dubrovnik. You'll also
enjoy a day trip to the very cool Pag Island in Croatia - a place where you can relax by the sea or in
one of the many happening bars
Itinerary
Depart for Europe Day
1 Jet off to the trip of a lifetime awaiting you in
Europe!
Arrive Paris Day 2
18-35 Village (D) Check in at the Contiki Village and explore this stylish, cosmopolitan
city for the afternoon. Later meet up with your Contiki Crew and get to know your fellow travelers over
dinner.
Paris Day 3
18-35 Village (B) Today take the opportunity to visit the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre
Dame, Arc de Triomphe or the Champs Elysées. Tonight, why not complete your Parisian experience with a French
meal and a famous Parisian cabaret?
Paris to Amsterdam Day 4 Hotel (B,D) Three countries in one day today! Leaving France, we travel through
Belgium and into the Netherlands and its most famous city, Amsterdam.
Amsterdam Day 5 Hotel (B) Visit the cheese village of Edam on a bicycle tour of the Dutch
countryside. Spend your free time wandering along the canals, shopping or visiting famous museums such as the
Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank's House.
Amsterdam to Berlin Day 6 Hostel (B,D) This morning we head east and continue to Berlin, the cultural capital
of Germany. You'll have your first glimpse of the Berlin Wall and time to sample the great nightlife of this
vibrant city.
Berlin Day 7 Hostel (B) Time to explore this lively city where East and West once met. A
chance for an Historical Walking tour, a visit to the "Checkpoint Charlie" museum or to check out the great
shops, cafés and nightlife.
Berlin to Prague Day 8 Hostel (B,D) Drive south through Germany and stop for lunch in Dresden. We head
into the Czech Republic for two nights in Prague, the golden city built on Seven Hills across the River
Vltava.
Prague Day 9 Hostel (B) This morning's sightseeing tour includes Hradcany Castle, the
Cathedral of St Vitus and Wenceslas Square. Then time to explore the Jewish Quarter.
Prague to Vienna Day 10 Hostel (B) Journey south to Vienna, the majestic capital of Austria. This
afternoon join us for a sightseeing tour of the Burg Ring and then a chance for an evening of local
culture.
Vienna Day 11 Hostel (B) On our sightseeing tour see the fabulous Palace of the Hapsburgs, the
State Opera House and fashionable Kärntnerstrasse. In your free time try authentic apple strudel and Viennese
coffee. Later why not sample some local schnaps and a traditional Viennese meal?
Vienna to Zagreb Day 12 Hotel (B) Cross through Slovenia en route to the newly buzzing Balkan gem of
Zagreb.
Zagreb to Dubrovnik Day 13 Hostel (B,D) Set out for Croatia’s sparkling coastline and continue on to the
picturesque, ancient walled city of Dubrovnik.
Dubrovnik Day 14 &
15 Hostel (B)(B,D) Two days to sightsee and explore one of Europe's most breathtaking
locations and the jewel of the Croatian coastline, the picturesque walled city of Dubrovnik. In your free
time enjoy this UNESCO World Heritage Sight by taking a walk along the old town walls or relaxing on the
beach.
Dubrovnik to Zadar Day 16 Hostel (B,D) Travel north to Zadar, a historic port city on the Adriatic
Sea.
Zadarto Ljubljana Day 17 Hostel (B) Today we’ll head to little Ljubljana, Slovenia’s happening university
town and colourful capital. Compact and user-friendly, it’s easy to discover on foot and with a gorgeous
hill-top castle and striking river, it’s a great place to hang out. Take a walk along the shaded riverside
paths or head to the city’s popular meeting point, Presernov Tg, the central town square where you can watch
lively street musicians and performers.
Ljubljana to Venice Day 18 18-35 Village (B,D) Use your free time this morning to explore the pretty town of
Bled.Sticking to the Adriatic coast, we roll through Slovenia and into Venice. Watch the scenery change and
maybe practice some of your Italian phrases!
Venice Day 19 18-35
Village (B,D) A short boat ride takes us into the historical centre of Venice to see
St. Mark's Square, the Doges' Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs. See glass and lace making demonstrations and
why not treat yourself to a gondola ride?
Venice to Florence Day 20 18-35 Village (B) We travel to Pisa, home of the famous Leaning Tower. From here it's a
short journey to the most spectacular of Renaissance cities, Florence.
Florence to Rome Day 21 18-35 Village (B) Learn about the Duomo, Giotto's Bell-Tower, Piazza della Signoria and
Santa Croce as our expert local guide walks us through the city this morning. Shop for silver and gold and
see a demonstration of Florentine leathercraft. In your free time perhaps visit one of the many museums and
galleries before we continue to the fabled city of Rome. Do as the Romans do and stroll past the Trevi
Fountain, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona. Later be delighted by your first glimpse of the Colosseum on our
sightseeing tour.
Rome Day 22
18-35 Village (B,D) Ancient and modern Rome await your discovery. Why not take a guided
tour of the Imperial Forum and walk in the footsteps of Gladiators? In your free time explore the Vatican
City and Sistine Chapel, snap up Italian fashions or just watch the world go by with a gelato (or
two).
Depart Rome Day 23 (B) Time to swap addresses and e-mail contacts and say "Arrivederci", your
tour ends after breakfast.
