Buffalo Trail Singles Tour Itinerary
Crossing the border from Zimbabwe, we leave the town of Vic Falls and head west into Botswana. Well known for its magnificent herds of elephant, we enter Chobe National Park which is one of the richest wildlife areas in Botswana. Before experiencing one of the most fantastic sunsets over the Chobe River, we spend the afternoon viewing some of Africa's most renowned animals.
Today we travel along the edge of the Makgadigadi Pans. Once Botswana was covered by a large inland sea but now all that remains are The Pans. The wildlife is abundant and the open space is amazing. Here you will find that it is quite common to see herds of gemsbok and springbok grazing.
Maun is the gateway to the Okavango Delta. It is also the chief city of the Tawana people. We travel over sandy tracks to the edge of the Delta via the rural villages. We continue in Mokoro's which allow us the unequaled experience of navigating through the waterways of the Delta where sightings of buffalo, giraffe, elephant, hippo and antelope are common. Leading us on a game walk, our local guide shares some of his extensive bush knowledge. We return to Maun in the late afternoon. Here you have the option to fly by small aircraft for a birds eye view.
Located close to Nata Sanctuary, we arrive at our lodge which is situated in the shade of palm trees. Aiming to preserve the wildlife living around the edge of the pan, the sanctuary has become a community project. Certain times of the year flamingoes and pelicans can be seen in their thousands in the area surrounding the Nata River delta which is known as a bird watchers paradise.
Our destination in Zimbabwe, known for its unusually wide streets, (which was originally designed to allow for the turning of a wagon and full span of oxen), is Bulawayo. Home to a small rhino population, we visit and spend some time exploring Matobo National Park. We also visit Cecil Rhodes grave at World's View and learn some interesting details about the country's colonial past.
Hwange was proclaimed a National Park in 1928, it was also the old hunting reserve of the Ndebele Kings. Hwange National Park is known for its sightings of up to a hundred elephants at any one of the many watering holes. It is also one of the last great elephant sanctuaries. We venture out on a game drive in an open safari vehicle, ready to capture that special moment with our cameras.
We arrive at one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, Lake Kariba. Here we board a houseboat which will be our home for the night. Your afternoon is spent game viewing the from the houseboat and soaking up the peace and quiet of the lake.
A short drive later, after leaving the shores of Lake Kariba, we arrive in Victoria Falls where our tour ends. With the many activities available surrounding this breathtaking wonder of the world, you should allow yourself time before or after your tour to enjoy all that is on offer.
*Depending on the group size you might have one crew member showing you Namibia's highlights. This tour is designed for those aged over 50.
