Kenyan Circuit Singles Tour Itinerary
We spend today in bustling Nairobi. Although not a prime tourist destination, it does offer attractions that are well worth visiting such as the Giraffe Centre, the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage or to the home of pioneer coffee farmer, Karen Blixen - author of "Out of Africa".
Lake Naivasha is a birdwatchers dream as it is home to numerous species of bird life and Africa’s largest concentration of African Fish Eagles. Nearby is Elsamere, former home of Joy Adamson. This remarkable woman raised and released Elsa the lioness who is immortalized in the book and film “Born Free”. The house is now a museum where we will enjoy a presentation of her work before enjoying high tea in the gardens.
Named for the Masai people and the Mara River which run through it, the Masai Mara is Kenya's finest wildlife sanctuary and we spend 2 days here. Everything about this reserve is outstanding from its exceptional game population to its gentle rolling grasslands. It is a place where Masai warriors share the plains with hunting lions, mighty herds and the timeless circle of life.
Lake Nakuru is a shallow, picturesque soda lake, set amongst wood and grassland. First opened as a bird sanctuary in 1960 it is now home to huge numbers of greater and lesser flamingo which move about in a shimmering pink mass. The park has the highest concentration of rhino in East Africa and also contains rare Rothschild's giraffe. We can visit the souvenir markets of Nakuru and sample the fine coffee that is grown in the region.
Lying in the northern Rift Valley, Lake Baringo is a fresh water lake where hippo, crocodile and colourful birds abound. The area is home to the Njemps tribe and you may wish to take some of their traditional crafts home with you.
We stop at Nyahururu today - Kenya's highest town and visit the 75m Thompsons Falls. Enjoy some free time walking or simply relaxing.
The realm of Ngai, god of the local Kikuyu people is how snow capped Mt Kenya is traditionally regarded and all Kikuyu homes were built to face this sacred peak. The small frontier town of Nanyuki, well known for lying on the equator, affords us beautiful views of the mountain as we begin our return drive to Nairobi.
Our tour ends back in Nairobi. In the evening, there is the option to enjoy a unique dinner experience at the world famous Carnivore restaurant. Every type of meat imaginable is roasted on traditional Masai swords (skewers) over a huge, visually spectacular charcoal pit that dominates the entrance of this open-air restaurant.
*Depending on the group size you might have one crew member showing you Namibia's highlights. This tour is designed for those aged over 50.
