Day 1 & 2 - Windhoek to Sesriem and Sossusvlei
Departing from Windhoek we travel south where we spend two nights in Sesriem. Boasting some of the world's highest and most picturesque dunes is Sossusvlei. It is said that this sand originated in the Kalahari some two to five million years ago. These harsh conditions makes it hard to believe the amount of animals sighted in this region. Gemsbok, ostriches and springbok are common. The spectacular view from the sand dunes definitely makes the climb worth it.
On our way to Walvis Bay we travel through the breathtaking Kuiseb Canyon. Not only does Walvis Bay attract a multitude of coastal birds such as flamingoes and pelicans, it is also a very busy and important port. Resembling a tiny Bavarian village situated between the desert and the sea, Swakopmund boasts graceful art nouveau buildings dating back to the turn of the century. Quad biking, dolphin and seal viewing boat trips, hot air ballooning and flights over the desert are only a few of the optional activities on offer.
In the cold waters of the Benguela Current, the seal colony at Cape Cross is home to many Cape Fur seals who flourish in this environment. Fog and sea mist, salt roads and barren emptiness creates a landscape of mystery as we drive along the coast. We head east to Spitzkoppe, popularly known as the Matterhorn of Namibia, which rises abruptly from the arid Namib plain. Rock engravings and paintings are to be found in this area. Explore geological curiosities such as the Burnt Mountain, the Organ Pipes and the Petrified Forest where fossils are estimated to be approximately 2 million years old. One of the oldest plants in the world, the Welwitschia, is also found in this area.
Day 6 - Spitzkoppe to Kamanjab
We find a colourful mixture of volcanic landscape and savannah as we view Damaraland, heading north. Visit a cheetah farm and rescue project and use this perfect opportunity to view these amazing cats as they are not often seen in the wild.
With terrain ranging from dense bush to open plains, Etosha National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa and was established in 1907. Watching an endless array of wildlife coming to drink at the floodlit waterhole will be the highlight of your evenings. This experience will prove to be one of the most unforgettable on your safari.
After breakfast we start our return journey to the cosmopolitan city of Windhoek and the end of our trip.
*Depending on the group size you might have one crew member showing you Namibia's highlights. This tour is designed for those aged over 50.
