A Taste of Spain Singles Tour

Spain's combination of modern European flair and medieval North African style provides the perfect setting for single travelers. Legendary Spain is made up of misty mountains, grand cathedrals, Moorish palaces and artistic treasures. Spain, in a word, is passionate, and its people live life to the fullest. Highlights you can enjoy are the works of Velasquez & Goya in the famous Prado museum, visit historical landmarks, broad boulevards, watch a matador in action at a bullfight or enjoy some local cooking including Tapas.

 

Day 1 - Thursday -  April 16 - USA
Depart your home town for Madrid, Spain. Remember you are flying home from Barcelona.

Day 2 - Friday - April 17 - Madrid
Arrive in Madrid in the morning as we will be picked up at the airport around 12:00pm. Right from the airport we start our Madrid city tour with a photo stop at the Basilica San Francisco El Gran and view of Plaza Espana.

Day 3 Saturday - April 18 - Madrid
Today you are free to explore Madrid with your Madrid Card. You will have access to the entire cultural offer in and around Madrid. Free entry to more than 4 of the major museums, As many journeys as you wish on the Madrid Visión hop on-hop off tour bus. With the Madrid Card you will also receive a guide with information on the museums and establishments associated with the program, as well as a city map.

Madrid Vision is the open-top double-deckers sightseeing buses, with maximum comfort and visibility. With three different routes you will see, Modern Madrid, Monumental Madrid and Historic Madrid. All the routes are inter-connected.
The Prado Museum, considered to be one of the world´s best art galleries, houses famous masterpieces of paintings, with the outstanding presence of Velázquez, Goya, Titian and Rubens, amongst others.
The Reina Sofía National Museum, located in an 18th century building, houses the most important collection of contemporary art in the Spanish State.
Villahermosa Palace houses the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, considered to be the top 20th century private collection. Durero, Titian, Goya, Degas, Renoir, Kandinsky or Rothko are some of the highlights included in this tour of Western art.
Royal Palace of Madrid - Philip V commissioned Sacchetti, an Italian architect, one of Juvarra's followers, with its construction. Its armoury is considered to be one of the most important in the world. The gardens stretch down towards the river.
A World Heritage Site, the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial was the political centre of Philip II. The Royal Palace, a monks monastery, a magnificent library, a large basilica with cenotaphs of the king and his father, Charles I. Most kings of Spain are buried in the Kings' Pantheon.
The Royal Palace of Aranjuez, 18th century, is surrounded by magnificent gardens, The Farmer's House, an 18th century mansion, is located in the Prince's garden. The Boat museum has vessels that were used to sail the Tagus river.
The Benedictine Abbey of the Sacred Cross Valley of the Fallen's granite cross rises up in the middle of a pine forest on the Cuelgamuros crag. It was built as a mausoleum in the years following the civil war.
The CABLE RAILWAY is a modern and ecological form of transport, enjoy an exciting journey, 40 metres up, observing the most emblematic monuments and buildings and the most incredible view of the capital.
Faunia, Madrid's nature theme park, enjoy the 140,000 m2 complex where some of the world's most incredible ecosystems have been faithfully recreated. Faunia also boasts the largest polar ecosystem in Europe.

Day 4 - Sunday - Madrid - Merida - Seville
After an early breakfast we bus to Merida, to enjoy a half day guided sightseeing tour. 

Merida was the largest Roman city in Iberia and has manifested into the finest ruins remaining in Spain today.

The Roman Theater (Teatro Romano) was built by Agrippa in 18 B.C. 6000 people could be seated in the theater. There is over 5 miles of aqueduct running though Merida. The Roman Bridge, Consisting of 64 Granite arches, the longest in Roman Spain, it's now a footbridge over the Guadiana river. The Alcazaba, constructed in 835 from the remains of a Roman fort, is located near the Roman Bridge, which it was designed to protect.

In the center of town is a strange looking Roman ruin, Temple of Diana, consisting of several columns. In the 17th century a nobleman built a rather large residence inside the columns, using four of them in the construction of the house.

Arrive in Seville in time for an evening at leisure or party.  Seville is the capital of a region that gave birth to tapas, flamenco and bullfighting, and the city does all three in great style. Seville has one of the finest bullrings in Spain, one of the premier operatic venues and some of the country's best flamenco artists.. It's all up to you!

Day 5 - April 20 - Monday
Seville - Cordoba -  Granada
After an early breakfast we start our day with  a photo stop at Alcazar as we travel to Cordoba.
 
After a city orientation of Cordoba, which was founded in 169bc we continue our journey to Granada.

Our tour includes a visit to Granada's greatest landmark, The Alhambra, literally, 'the red' in Arabic. Home to the Moorish monarchs the Alhambra is an exquisite example of Islamic architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continuing to the Generalife Gardens, next to the Alhambra, you'll visit the retreat of leisure and recreation for the Moorish kings of Granada. The beautiful gardens feature abundant and varied flora and stunning water features

Day 6 - Tuesday - April 21
Granada to Valencia

Today is our day of travel.  We start in Granada travel through Murcia where we stop for lunch. Then it is onto Valesdir for dinner and finally to Valencia where we will spend the night.

When walking through the streets of Valencia you can feel the beat of many centuries. From the remains of the Roman Forum, founded by Junius Brutus on the site of today's Plaza de la Virgen to the emblematic Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (City of the Arts and Sciences), Valencia has transformed into Spain's third largest city while preserving monuments that are a testimony of bygone centuries.

Day 7 Wednesday - April 22
Valencia to Barcelona
We start the day off with a 3 hour morning tour of Valencia. Most monuments date to the time after the reconquest of Valencia from the Moors.  Visit the Basilica de Neustra Segora de Los Desamparados. Entrance to the cathedral and musuem included.
After lunch we transfer to Barcelona and check into our hotel, a nice convent of the XVII century. Evening free to explore the cities nightlife.

Tonight we enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 8 - Thursday - April 23 - Barcelona
After breakfast enjoy a half day sightseeing city tour of Barcelona. See the highlights including entrance to Sagrada Familia with lift and a stop for an outside view of the Olympic Stadium. After lunch you are free to discover Barcelona on your own or with the singles group.

Day 9 -  Friday - April 24 - Barcelona
A Day to discover Barcleona utilizing Barcelona's Tourist Bus...
The northern route starts at Placa Catalunya and travels the Passeig de Gracia, stopping at  modernist buildings created by Gaudi; La Pedrera and Casa Battlo. It continues to the top of the city, stopping at Parc Guell and Tibidabo. It comes back into town stopping at royal and aristocratic palaces. This route includes a trip to Barcelona’s Football Club stadium and the modern Art Museum of Barcelona (MACBA). This tour takes 2 hours if you don’t get off the bus.

 

The Southern route also starts at Placa Catalunya, and continues along Passeig de Gracia. There are connections with the Northern Route at Casa Battlo and La Pedrera. Then the Bus Turistic heads to Placa Espanya, from where you will have access to the Caixaforum and the National Art Museum of Catalunya (MNAC), with its impressing building and views over the northern part of the city.

The Touristic Bus will then take you up to Montjuic, stopping at the Olympic stadium and the Montjuic´s Castle, with an amazing view of the coastline. Then down to the seaside. Barcelona has an excellent marina, and the seaside is full of places to eat or have a drink. Remember at night this is also a clubbing area. Tour takes 2 hours if you don’t get off the bus.

Let's celebrate our final night in Spain with a Flamenco Show and dinner.

Day 10 - Saturday - April 25  - Barcelona
After a final breakfast we have to say adios to all our new single travel friends as we are transfered to the airport and our flights home.
