Turkey is a country with history, a rich history that is endlessly studied and admired and, for that reason, it's perfect for those seeking an independent getaway, somewhere which affords a bit of freedom. Last minute holidays to Turkey offer excellent value for money for holidaymakers who want to visit a rich historical country that is known for its great cities, exceptional scenery, mouth-watering food, friendly people and so much more, all waiting for you to discover.
TurkeyTurkey is a large country and any intention of traversing to a wide range of national attractions will involve a lot of travel, ideally suited to someone visiting on their own. The west of the country consists of the Aegean Coast, close to the Mediterranean, featuring the traditional sun, sea and sand as well as a collection of olive groves.

Central Anatolia is the vast stretch in the middle of the country, home to a number of ruins as well as ancient cities. Eastern Anatolia, on the borders of Asia, features harsh and rough terrain, not ideal holiday spots but worth visiting for the scenic routes and unique terrain.

Ankara

Ankara, Turkey's capital, is a sprawling, modern city, with a deep sense of history as well as a number of landmarks. The Atakule Tower is a large shopping mall, high up in the sky, servicing as an observation deck as well. Anitkabir is a large memorial and tomb, housing the founder of the Republic of Turkey. It's a hugely respectful monument and worth visiting.

Aegean Turkey

The Ancient City ruins are in abundance here and the first stop has to be Ephesus. Ephesus features much in the way of relics, most still standing, such as the renowned Library structure. Elsewhere, Izmir and Bodrum are perfect for visitors looking to bask in a little culture and history.

Marmara

Marmara is home to Istanbul, usually considered Turkey's connection to Europe. Both the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires revolved around this area of Turkey so there is a lot of history on show; monuments are common in Istanbul as well as provinces such as Vize and Bursa.

As documented, Turkey is an eclectic nation, a place full of surprises and things to see and do. Travelling alone is perfect, affording time and the luxury of choice, both vital aspects in order to get the most out of your holiday to Turkey.
