Highlights of Ireland Singles Vacation Itinerary

Dublin IrelandVacation Day 1 - Arrive Dublin, Ireland
Today arrive at the Dublin, Ireland airport (airport code DUB) and take the provided shuttle to the group's hotel. Your singles vacation begins when you meet your group hostess and fellow travelers in the hotel lobby at 7:00 pm for a meet and greet and optional dinner.

Vacation Day 2 - Dublin

Ireland DublinPass2

Not only does the Dublin Pass entitle our singles vacation group to free admission, we also benefit from Fast-Track entry, allowing us to skip the long lines at some of the busiest tourist attractions! So visit Trinity College and the Old Library to view the illuminated manuscript of the Book of Kells., the Guinness Storehouse, Dublin Castle, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Kilmainham Gaol and the Old Jameson Distillery or one of the many other stops along the route.
Tonight enjoy a welcome dinner at a local Irish pub.

Blarney CastleVacation Day 3 - Dublin - Cork - Killarney
What would a trip to Ireland be without kissing the Blarney Stone? Say goodbye to Dublin as we travel with our driver/guide to County Cork, the home of Blarney Castle. Blarney Castle was built nearly six hundred years ago by one of Ireland’s greatest chieftains, Cormac MacCarthy. Its fame might have something to do with the Blarney Stone, the legendary Stone of Eloquence, found at the top of our Tower. Once upon a time, visitors had to be held by the ankles and lowered head first over the battlements, today the Stone itself is still set in the wall below the battlements. To kiss it, one killarneyhas to lean backwards (holding on to an iron railing) from the parapet walk. The prize is a real one as once kissed the stone bestows the gift of eloquence.
In the late afternoon arrive in Killarney, Ireland's most historic and compact medieval city with picturesque alleyways and array of historical buildings. There are many workshops of local arts and craftsmen, ice cream and sweet shops, and a variety of restaurants to be found in Killarney but the real soul of the town is its pubs. Tonight we will take a walk around the town and check-out the local music and food in one or two of the 50 pubs located here

Vacation Day 4 - Killarney - Ring of Kerry
ring of kerry
Today explore the ‘Ring of Kerry’, 105 miles of some of Ireland's most spectacular scenery. The Ring of Kerry offers magnificent panoramas of the Atlantic Ocean and the rugged coastline of southwest Ireland contrasting with the rich and varied vegetation nurtured by the Gulf Stream The route takes us through many small villages such as Sneem, famous for its multicolored houses, and through the mountains to Molls Gap and Ladies View, which offer superb views of the famous lakes of Killarney.
The founding partners of Killarney Brewing Company have restored the old Killarney Mineral Water drinks facility to its former glory; specializing in the production of what they believe is Ireland’s finest range of craft beers. Check out the Brewhouse up close and personal with tour guides  that are true Killarney characters. The tour, lasting approx 1 hour consists of a “cheeky” introductory film, a walking tour of the brewery, a meet the brewer and finally a complimentary beer tasting and storytelling.

Vacation Day 5 - Killarney - Adare - Limerick
Adare Ireland
Snuggled in a wooden and lush countryside setting, Adare is widely regarded as being Ireland’s prettiest and most picturesque village. Step back in time and experience the architectural wealth and scenic beauty of Adare village. The mix of centuries is blended into everyday life as some of the thatched limerickcottages are home to arts and crafts shops.
Our vacation continues onto Limerick to discover the history of Ireland’s third largest city on our walking tour. Stroll by buildings ancient and historical, middle-aged and stately, modern and exciting on both sides of the River Shannon. See the famous King John's Castle, King's Island, Irish Town, Georgian Limerick and Newtown Perry.
Tonight we check out a few of the local pubs for food, live music and fun.

Vacation Day 6 - Limerick - Cliffs of Mohr - Galway
cliffs of moherTravel to the coast for a visit to the Cliffs of Mohr. These are the most majestic cliffs in Ireland and rise from the Atlantic Ocean at 705 feet and extend for over 2300 feet long. From this height, you can admire the Aran Islands, the Connemara Mountains and listen to the many sea birds that colonize this place from springtime on.
Continue to Galway via the Burren Region, a strange and unique region in Europe. “Burren” means “larges stones” – in fact its name describes this impressive scenery perfectly well. The Trad on promBurren is a High-Plateau of porous limestone. No trees grow here, no land is covering the stone. But the Burren is not as deserted as we believe. You will also discover the testimonies of its rich history such as countless castles and monastic ruins.
Tonight enjoy Trad On The Prom, the best traditional Irish Dance and Music show in Galway City. Performers who have captivated audiences in extraordinary and groundbreaking productions such as "Riverdance", "The Chieftains" and "Lord of the Dance" have gathered on one stage to present an unforgettable entertainment experience.

Vacation Day 7 - Galway / Aran Islands
Adare IrelandAfter breakfast we take a short bus ride to the Ros a’ Mhíl Port where we board our ferry to Inis Mór, the biggest of the 3 Aran Islands. NorthWest across Galway Bay our sailing time to Inis Mór is 45 minutes. The island, only 7.5 miles in length and 1.86 miles in width has a population of about 1,000 people spread over 14 villages. Our mini bus tour with a local well informed on the islands' history and statistics tour guide will be about three hours long, with about an hour allowed at Dún Aonghasa (Dun Aengus).
Dún Aonghasa is a prehistoric fort perched on the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Named dun aengus fortafter a mythical Irish king and pre-Christian god, the semi-circular stone fort dates back to the Bronze Age and offers insight into ancient Ireland. Recent excavation found evidence of human activity dating back over two and a half thousand years. Covering an area of 14 acres, the interior of the hill fort is divided into an outer, middle and inner enclosure by three curved walls terminating at the cliff face.
Tonight we check out a few of the local pubs for food, live music and fun.

Vacation Day 8 - Galway - Dublin
Irish National Stud FarmTravel the Irish countryside to the world-renowned Irish National Stud Farm, home to some of Ireland's finest thoroughbreds. This 1,000-acre Farm has been in use as a Stud Farm since 1900 and boasts a fascinating state-of-the-art Horse Museum. Why not take a stroll around the beautiful Japanese Gardens situated in the grounds of the Stud Farm. Planned to symbolize the 'Life of Man' from the cradle to the grave the gardens are considered the finest in Europe.
Or travel through an underground stone passage to experience the raw beauty of St. Fiachra's Garden. Designed as a Millennium project, it has four acres of woodland and lakeside walks and invokes the Ireland Ireland Dancersspirituality of the monastic movement in Ireland during the 6th and 7th centuries.
Time to relax at our Dublin Airport hotel before our farewell dinner and show. Enjoy The Merry Ploughboys Live in Concert, regarded as the best traditional music show in Dublin. The show itself is a highly entertaining performance of live traditional Irish Music, Song and Irish Dancing. The very best of fresh Irish food is served from our restaurant which offers a choice menu.

Vacation Day 9 - Depart Ireland
After the groups final breakfast at our hotel take the shuttle bus to Dublin Airport and bid farewell to the Emerald Isle. Sad to say but another wonderful singles vacation has come to an end.

40's - 50's and 60's + Singles Vacations

May 10 - May 19, 2024

$3895*

London is one of the world's great cities, vibrant London manages to shine in the grayest weather and its diversity defies a simple definition. This sprawling city has drawn people for centuries, looking for something and finding the unexpected. London's landscape is steeped in British history and tradition. The classic sights of Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and Big Ben could not be more English, and are a permanent symbol of England's former greatness.

Paris is confident that it's the world's most beautiful, fashionable and artistic capital. Visit just once and it's hard to disagree. Walking through the heart of Paris you often feel like you've wandered onto an art film set; much of the city has been scrubbed clean in recent years and it's never looked more fabulous. Its inhabitants are the definition of style, its architecture includes some of the most spectacular buildings and monuments in Europe and the ambiance is by turns exciting and alluring.

Amsterdam, with its canals, distinctive architecture and liberal culture, is one of Europe's most fun and laid-back cities and the capital of the Netherlands and has something to suit every taste. The cobbled streets are made for wandering, or cycling, and enjoying the typical Dutch landscapes of boat-lined canals and architectural landmarks such as the Oude Kerk and Beurs van Berlage. Of course the best way to see the city is from a boat and over three million people enjoyed a canal cruise in Amsterdam last year.

What to Pack for Your Vacation

All religious sites like the Basilica require everyone to wear clothing that covers both shoulders and knees. For men a long pair of shorts that reach the knees and a shirt. Ladies a shawl is great to cover the shoulders and for cooler evenings.

Shopping in Italy

Rome: Shopping in Rome is fantastic, no matter if you are searching for haute couture, antiques, or a bargain. Some of the biggest names in Italian fashion - Fendi, Valentino, Bulgari - come from Rome and you will find their flagship stores, as well as boutiques by Prada, Armani, Versace, Ferragamo, Cavalli, Gucci, and many others, along the streets near the Spanish Steps. Via Condotti is Rome's main drag for haute couture and window shopping, though you'll also find high fashion boutiques on Via Borgognona, Via Frattina, Via Sistina, and Via Bocca de Leone.

There are several good outdoor markets, flea markets, and places to buy antiques in Rome. You'll find everything from antique housewares to secondhand clothing and music to original art, jewelry, posters, furniture, etc.

Florence is one of Italy's top cities for shopping and is known for designer fashions, leather goods, gold, and fine stationery. Beyond designer duds and vintage finds, Florence is a great city to purchase leather goods. Gold is a classic item often purchased in Florence, just cross Florence's most famous bridge, and you'll see gold sellers lining each side of it. Whether the gold here is a bargain is unclear, but you can find high quality, unique necklaces, earrings, bracelets, watches, rings, and more.

Venice is famous for local crafts that have been produced here for centuries and are hard to get elsewhere: the glassware from Murano, the delicate lace from Burano, and the cartapesta (papier-mâché) Carnevale masks you'll find in all the local stores.

Amalfi:  Shopping for ceramics on the Amalfi Coast is one of the real treats of exploring this gorgeous coastline in southern Italy’s Campania region. The Amalfi Coast is a vibrant landscape of pastel colored houses, steeply terraced gardens and rocky cliffs plummeting down to the Mediterranean Sea. Filling this scene with even more color and life are the brilliant ceramic shops you’ll find in each town along the Coast.

Apulia: the products for shopping are localized and each province has its own special products. In the Foggia province, food processing is quite famous. In Barletta visitors would find textiles, furniture, wooden artifacts and footwear. In the area of Murge visitors would again find wooden artifacts and furniture etc. Locally made products of footwear, food, clothing and textiles are popular gifts.

Local Foods

Rome: There is no lack of places to eat, from family run trattorias and pizzerias, to fancier, gourmet restaurants. Food is important to the life and culture of all Italy. While many try to reproduce Italian dishes, there's nothing like enjoying a dinner in Rome. The best Italian chefs appreciate simplicity and have learned to complement relatively plain recipes with rich, flavorful tastes.

There are so many Gelaterias that you will never tire of trying to figure out which one is the best.

Florence: Enjoying great food and excellent wine in Florence is not hard to do. The food is simple and abundant with local produce, mellow cheeses and grilled meats. The meals range from the original and traditional to more adventurous. You can try one of the restaurants recommended in the guide books or just walk down any street in Florence and select a trattoria, wine bar or restaurant that seems appealing and you'll surely enjoy a nice meal.

Venice: Chinese and Indian restaurants have a small presence, but Venice is the place to go for excellent seafood and good Northern Italian cooking. Among the typical seasoning of Venetian cuisine, you will find butter, olive oil, sunflower oil, vinegar, kren, senape, mostarda, salsa verde.

Amalfi Coast: Food and wine is a way of life on the Bay of Naples and the Amalfi Coast. The local cuisine is mainly Neapolitan and is famous for its use of tomatoes, lemons, fresh vegetables, red peppers and olives. You will find world-famous specialties like pizza, pasta, the pastiera cake, buffalo mozzarella cheese and fresh Mediterranean seafood.

Puglia: Consisting mainly of farmland and coastline, Puglia is famous for its fresh produce and delicious dishes. Food fairs date back to the days when farmers used to gather in towns to buy and sell produce. Today’s celebrations are dictated by tradition, what is in season, and the town’s whim; they reach a peak during the holiday season of July and August.

The Grand Canal is like the main street, cutting through the center of the city. Its small, traffic-free streets along the winding canals make for a great walking tour where we will find many magnificent churches and palaces, lively squares, and unique shops. Our walking tour highlights all the important monuments, from San Marco Square to the Rialto Bridge. Learn the history behind the famous landmarks, including the basilica's Byzantine heritage and the adjoining prisons of the Doge's Palace.

Vacation Day 8 - Venice
Italy doges palace
This morning we visit one of the most famous buildings in Venice, the Doge's Palace. Inside the palace we will see amazing Italian Renaissance art, majestic staircases, the Doge's apartments and the government chambers. Then walk across the world-famous Bridge of Sighs, built to connect the palace to the network of prisons established by the doges. Our tour ends with a walk around the eerie New Prisons before bidding our guide a fond farewell outside the palace.

Italy Gondola RideA trip to Venice would not be complete without a gondola ride by a traditionally dressed gondolier. Sit back on your seat and soak up the gorgeous scenes as our gondolas bob along some of Venice’s prettiest waterways. Dip into romantic side canals and drift along a stretch of the Grand Canal past exquisite mansions and landmarks.
The rest of the day is at leisure for last minute exploring, shopping or relaxing before our Farewell Dinner!

What to Wear Onboard your singles cruise

On Norwegian Cruises you can dress in resort casual or get decked-out and look your best - it’s your call.. There is even a special “Dress-Up or Not Night.”

During the day and in the buffet and most specialty restaurants the dress is cruise casual. For women, it includes summer and casual dresses, skirts, regular or capri pants, shorts, jeans and tops. For men Khakis, jeans, shorts and casual shirts are fine. Swimwear is acceptable at the buffet and outdoor restaurant, but a shirt or a cover-up and footwear are required. Cruise casual is also allowed day and night on embarkation day.

Wear smart casual if you are eating dinner in the formal dining room and in Le Bistro. For women, it includes slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops. For men, it’s jeans or slacks with a collared shirt and closed-toed shoes.

We want you to be comfortable, but tank tops for men, flip flops, baseball caps, visors and jeans that are overly faded, with holes or tears and worn below the hips are not permitted in main dining rooms or specialty restaurants.

Berlin, Germany - For something characteristically Berlin, pick up a souvenir boasting an image of the cult figure, Ampelmann, found on everything from tote bags to t-shirts around the city. There is now also a female version, the Ampelfrau.

Tallinn, Estonia is known for Handicraft items such as hand-knitted woollen sweaters with traditional Estonian folk patterns, carved wooden beer mugs, fun felt hats, juniper coasters and limestone candle holders. Dark, bittersweet Estonian chocolate and other local sweets produced by the Kalev confectionery. Original art such as graphic prints, handmade jewellery, colourful glassware or fine ceramics.

St. Petersburg, Russia has a growing number of stores offering a variety of goods and services including everything from handmade arts, crafts, and souvenirs. You can find rare antiques or an original artwork by a number of talented artists.

Helsinki, Finland is a paradise for shopaholics. You can find international luxury items and the best of Finnish design. The city has several interior decoration stores where you can enjoy classic Finnish design and interesting novelties by new designers – not to mention the fashion stores!

Stockholm, Sweden - the Dala Horse is the souvenir of souvenirs to bring from Sweden, an unofficial national symbol. Named after their origin, the province of Dalarna, these small wooden horses have been around since the 17th century. They are normally painted orange or blue with symmetrical decorations. Machu Picchu & Lake Titicaca Adventure
40's, 50's, 60's+ Singles Vacations
November 1 - November 10, 2024 - $2825

Machu Picchu, rediscovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham, is a fortress city of the ancient Incas. The ruins are one of the most beautiful and enigmatic ancient sites in the world. While the Inca people certainly used the Andean mountain top, erecting hundreds of stone structures in the 1400's, legends and myths indicate that Machu Picchu (meaning 'Old Peak' in the Quechua language) was revered as a sacred place from a far earlier time. Whatever its origins, the Inca turned the site into a small but extraordinary city. Invisible from below and completely self-contained, surrounded by agricultural terraces sufficient to feed the population, and watered by natural springs, Machu Picchu seems to have been used by the Inca as a secret ceremonial city. Two thousand feet above the Urubamba river, the cloud shrouded ruins have palaces, baths, temples, storage rooms and about 150 houses, all in a remarkable state of preservation.

Don’t miss the picturesque Las Peñas district and explore the city’s growing art scene.

Vacation Day 2: Guayaquil - "City Tour" ( Saturday, April 13, 2024)

classic gothic style CathedralStart your Guayaquil City Tour at the Simon Bolívar Park. Here, visit the classic gothic style Cathedral, which was completely rebuilt after the 1896 fires that destroyed many of the city’s beautiful wooden buildings. Located north of the city center, the Las Peñas district is the oldest and most picturesque. Admire the 400-year-old colonial houses that have now become art galleries or workshops and stroll around the open-air painting and sculpture exhibitions. Then, as you walk along the beautiful boardwalk “Malecón 2000” by the Guayas River, appreciate the river and city views.

End your tour with a visit to the Historical Park, located on the banks of the Guayas River. The park was built in 1997 as a theme park and is aimed to exhibit the history and culture of the old province of Guayaquil. The site also recreates the architecture, traditions and the urban and rural life, mixed with a beautiful natural park full of a diverse vegetation that form different natural and wildlife areas with their respective flora and fauna.

Vacation Day 3: Guayaquil-Galapagos Islands (Sunday, April 14, 2024)

Galapagos Galapagos Sea LionsIn the morning you will be taken to the airport for your flight to the Galapagos Islands.
Galapagos - the Enchanted Islands - doubtlessly are the highlight of every Ecuador trip and you also should not miss a visit, for it is the most unique living museum of evolutionary changes and you would get to know a variety of exotic species endemic to this Archipelago! Galapagos is the perfect setting to experience the evolutionary changes, which have led to a new understanding of live on earth. Animals unafraid of man and so different from any others found elsewhere, make visitors wonder about their existence on our planet. Among the animals found, are the different species of giant “Galapagos” tortoises that gave the islands their name, a variety of birds and marine mammals such as iguanas, sea lions, dolphins, whales as well as a great number of fish. Among the flora, the most distinctive are mangroves and endemic cacti -to mention only some of them!

Your guide will welcome you at the Baltra airport. Then, take a bus and a ferry to the Santa Cruz Island.

Galapagos Galapagos TurtleSanta Cruz Island is the second largest island and is located in the middle of the archipelago. Colonized in the 1920’s, Puerto Ayora is the main human settlement with the most important harbor in the Galápagos. After Isabela Island, Santa Cruz is home to the second largest population of giant tortoises (about 3000). Discover the island’s beautiful beaches and bays with sea lions, marine turtles, and seabirds. Or, take your adventures off the beaten track to its remote highlands and verdant landscapes.

Ride through the highlands and observe the change in vegetation: from arid landscapes filled with cacti to the lush rainforest. Take a short stop and observe the twin craters. These sinkholes were created by the collapse of a volcanic roof caused by tectonic movements and erosion. The Giant Tortoise Reserve in the Santa Cruz highlands is one of the few places you can see these giants in their natural habitat. The large, pre-historic looking animals can be seen as you walk along the trails during their migration from the coast to the highlands. It is also one of the best sites to observe the short-eared owl, another endemic specie from the Galápagos.

Enjoy lunch in a typical hacienda and continue your journey towards Puerto Ayora.

Vacation Day 4: Galapagos Islands (Monday, April 15, 2024)
IguanaFrom Puerto Ayora,Leisurely walk to Tortuga Bay, one of the longest white sandy beaches in the archipelago. Along its shores, keep an eye out for marine iguanas, sea turtles, and migratory birds. On the west, a rocky edge divides the beach and creates a calm cove ideal to swim around the bay. Enjoy your afternoon at leisure.  Bring your bathing suit and snorkel gear (also available to rent) and enjoy the day in the water at one of the best Galapagos snorkel sites Tortuga Laguna or spend the afternoon shopping back in town.

Vacation Day 5 Galapagos Islands (Tuesday, April 16, 2024)

Galapagos blue footed boobyDuring a full day boat excursion you’ll visit one of the islands North Seymour, South Plazas, Bartholomew or Santa Fe. Each of the islands has its own significant beauties to offer and regardless which you’ll visit, you’ll definitely enjoy your stay. Lunch on board and snorkelling activity included. North Seymour is a flat island that was uplifted from the sea by underground seismic activity. Located North of Baltra, it is one of the best places to see Blue Footed Boobies and Magnificent Frigate birds. Blue Footed Boobies are found on the flat area near the coast of this island (they nest from May to November). Continuing the trail to the interior, one stumbles upon the biggest congregation of Magnificent Frigate birds in the island. While on North Seymour, there is a high chance of seeing a great show of acrobatic flight, namely a Frigate bird robbing a booby, a gull or even another Frigate bird the food.  South Plazas Island, where a large colony of sea lions lounges daily in the equatorial sun. Soon you will notice their subtly diabolic grins and wonder what they find so humorous; you only hope the joke isn't on you! South Plazas also boasts excellent examples of typicalGalapaganean flora such as the towering cacti "trees" that form the principal diet for boththe land iguanas and the cactus finch. Other birds that may flutter by include lava gulls, yellow warblers and red-billed tropicbirds with their elaborate tails.

Vacation Day 6 Galapagos Islands ( Wednesday, April 17, 2024)
Galapagos Glapagos IslandAnother fun filled day out on the water. Full day boat excursion visiting one of the islands North Seymour, South Plazas, Bartholomew or Santa Fe. Bartholomew, a tiny island of just 1.2 km 2 , offers the visitor one of the most spectacular views of the archipelago. Bartholomew is located near the west coast of James, on the other side of Sullivan Bay. It is famous for its Pinnacle Rock, which is the representative characteristic of Bartholomew. The climb to the 114 m high peak is both challenging and worth-doing. On your way up, you will encounter different formations of volcanic origin including spatter and tuff cones, lava flows and lava tubes. Once on the summit, there is a spectacular view of the surroundings. Bartholomew is also a must for the visitor interested in geology. Penguins are common in the bay area.

Vacation Day 7 - Galapagos Islands (Thursday, April 18, 2024)
Galapagos Penguins GalapagosVisit the Charles Darwin Research Center which was inaugurated 1994 in Puerto Ayora. Over 200 scientists and volunteers are active in the conservation and research projects for the most famous resident of the Galápagos: the Giant Tortoise. Stroll around the impressive giant prickly- pear cactus forest or visit the baby turtles that are affectionately cared for until they can be repatriated. galapagos islands volcan sierra negra y volcan chicoIsabela Island is the archipelago’s biggest island and occupies about 60% of the land area. About 1 million years ago, the merger of 6 volcanoes formed the island: Cerro Azul, Sierra Negra (Santa Tomás), Alcedo, Ecuador, Darwin, and Wolf. Today, all except the Ecuador volcano are active, making it a very active place on Earth. The most recent volcanic activity was on June 26 th 2018, when the Sierra Negra volcano erupted. This will be our first opportunities to enjoy the exciting features of our cruise ship: the spacious social areas, comfortable suites, and an observation deck that offers spectacular views. An evening walk is organized after sunset; giving us the opportunity to discover the forest’s nocturnal activity and listen to the incessant sounds of nature.

Vacation Day 4: Amazon - Border With Peru (The Heart of Yasuni)
After a delicious breakfast, we disembark on land for our first daylight close-and-personal tropical rainforest experience, where we will learn about the relationship between plants and animals while closely watching out for samples of Amazonia’s fascinating biodiversity at every turn. After lunch, the M/V Manatee navigates to one of the most pristine and little explored sections of Ecuadorian Amazonia, home to the legendary pink river dolphin, black caiman and anaconda. We may also find river turtles and various species of monkeys, as well as the primitive Hoatzin, a one-of-a-kind bird locally known as "the Stinky Turkey". The only way to actually visit this flooded ecosystem is by canoe, a ride that will reveal the beauty of a lush jungle world.

Vacation Day 5: Amazon - Meet the Locals and Island Exploration
Amazon SakiMonkeyAdmire the amazing scenery as we enjoy breakfast on board. Then we will visit a school located on the banks of the Napo River, where we have the opportunity to interact with the children of the area and learn about the educational system of a remote jungle community in Ecuador.
We return to the M/V Manatee for lunch and a moment to relax while we navigate upstream. On board there will be a lecture and documentary screening, and if time permits, learn about (and make) typical handicrafts of the area. In the afternoon, we explore one of the largest river islands of the Napo River.

Amazon Observation TowerVacation Day 6: Amazon - Observation Tower and Limoncocha Biological Reserve
This morning after breakfast, we visit an observation tower 100-feet high, built against a giant kapok tree. From the top of the tower, we will be blessed with this unique perspective of the forest, looming over the treetops and the greatness of the Amazon Basin.
In the afternoon, we visit Limoncocha Biological Reserve, a fascinating protected area where more than 478 bird species and several monkey species have been recorded. This activity will extend into the evening, when we will have a chance to spot black caiman with the help of our flashlights. After our adventure we return to the M/V Manatee for our final Amazon dinner.

Vacation Day 7: Amazon to Quito
Amazon Quito CacoIn the morning we disembark the M/V Manatee and transfer by motorized canoe to Coca. Relax and enjoy the scenery on our final Amazon ride. Then board our plane for the short flight to Quito, considered the continent's most beautiful city. Our driver will be waiting to transfer us to our hotel.
A night at leisure back in civilization.

Vacation Day 8: Quito - Otavalo Indian Market
Amazon Otavalo Indian MarketToday we travel north to a valley deep within the Andes to the world famous Otavalo Indian market. Saturday is market day and the town is crowded with traditional dressed locals and people from surrounding highland villages. Everyone is busy bargaining for traditional Ecuadorian crafts, weavings and textiles. Warm jackets, woven bags, pillow covers and wall hangings are great souvenirs. Woodcarving, musical instruments and jewelry are also popular.
In the afternoon, visit Cotacachi, famous for its handcrafted leather articles. If time allows, the adventure ends with a visit to beautiful Cuicocha Lake, a flooded volcanic crater with two floating islets, before returning to Quito.
Tonight enjoy our farewell dinner at a local-flavor restaurant.

Vacation Day 9: Quito - Tour Ends
Sad to say but our Amazon River Cruise Singles Vacation has come to an end. After breakfast it is time to say goodbye to all your new travel friends as we make our way to the airport. Your singles adventure doesn't have to end if you are continuing on to the Experience the Galapagos Singles Vacation.

The Amazon Experience

Bird Watching
Amazon bird watching
There is no need to embellish the marvelous reality of Amazonia in terms of birds. With over 580 recorded species, including raucous parrots, glorious eagles, patterned herons, blindingly bright tanagers and cotingas, peculiarly unique hoatzins and umbrellabirds and everything in between. Ecuadorian Amazonia is quite attractive because of its accessibility. But one of the great things about birding with Manatee, is the fact that we can travel across the gamut of Amazonian ecosystems during a single trip, from the flooded forests of the Peruvian Border, the lake habitats of Limoncocha and Pañacocha, and extremely remote areas near the Peruvian border, to the record-breaking ever-diverse Yasuní, giving us the most complete version possible of bird life in the Ecuadorian Amazon Basin. We walk forests, climb observation towers, hide behind blinds, or silently canoe inside black water streams and out in open blackwater lakes, seeking out as many birds as possible: you’ll be amazed at the variety, beauty and fascinating singularities of hundreds of different species.
Jungle Hikes
Amazon hikeA lot goes on on the ground in the rainforest. Some creatures are perfectly camouflaged, like walking sticks, sphinx moths, dried-leaf katydids, and glass frogs, others are quite the opposite, bright and perky like rainbow katydids and orchid bees. We walk and hike the rainforests under towering trees — as towering as a city full of skyscrapers—, the light trickling down in layers, smelling the aromas of a million different plants, feeling the presence of innumerable creatures filling every corner of the forest. The understory is a world within itself… Every plant holds a universe. Imagine every tree… imagine the entire forest… We program different walks for both inside forest exploration or lounging riverbanks and lakes, on longer, shorter, harder or easier trails, depending on interest or difficulty level, together with guides that enlighten us with their knowledge on life in the forest, the faunal communities that inhabit them, the medicinal plants that grow inside them, and much more.
Observation Tower
Amazon observation tower2Observation towers are spectacular vantage points that give us a sense of the forest’s overall scale. We climb several hundred steps (over 165 feet) up one of the enormous emergent trees traveling through the vertical stratification created by the forest’s spectacular height and diversity. We move towards the light, reaching the subcanopy and later the canopy, noticing the different biological realities of each level, and then higher still, above the tree tops to a most spectacular view from where one can spot nesting birds, undulating mountain ridges, or monkeys swinging from trees. There is amazing activity up in this “neck of the woods”. Scientists have explored little of these upper areas of the forest, mainly because of the difficulty of getting to them: which means thousands upon thousands of hectares of undiscovered territory.
Canoe Excursions
Amazon Canoe ExcursionsPerhaps the closest sensation to penetrating paradise when visiting the Amazon Basin takes place on canoe, inching down a black-water stream with the forest gyrating above you in a million sounds… These waters are full of vitamins and minerals, and obtain their color from the vegetation that falls in them. You may suddenly surprise a pair of macaws preening each other, monkeys cackling while they feed or find enormous 6.5 feet long Giant Otters swimming up a creek with the entire family. The ancient inhabitants of these lands mastered the region’s waterways and we will be able to experience, with them, the inspiring, ageless practice of paddling in the midst of forest life. At night we can seek out caiman and in the day the spectacular Pink River Dolphins or the elusive Manatee.
